Rosamund Pike
In 1979, in
London, England, actress Rosamund Mary Elizabeth Pike was the only child of a
classical violinist mom, Caroline (Friend), and a opera singer father, Julian
Pike. The actress spent her youth traveling throughout Europe because of her
parents' work. Pike attended Bristol's Badminton School and started acting at
the National Youth Theatre. As a performer in the National Youth Theatre
production of "Romeo and Juliet", she was first spotted and was
signed by an agent, although she continued her studies in Wadham College,
Oxford, where she studied English Literature, eventually graduating with an
upper second grade with an honors degree.Pike was a part of a variety of UK TV
shows, including Wives and Daughters (1999) prior to making her debut in
feature films as the stunning beauty "Miranda Frost" in the James
Bond film, Die Another Day (2002); at the time the film premiered in 2002, she
was only 23 years old. The film that she made her debut was a big-budget action
flick. However, her later film work was mostly independent films like Promised
Land (2004) and The Libertine (2004). In 2004, she won the Best Supporting
Actress prize in The British Independent Film Awards. Pride & Prejudice
(2005) included Pike as one of the Bennet girls. A brief foray into Hollywood
film was followed by the action flick, Doom (2005), and the thriller Fracture
(2007) however, she returned to her smaller-scale films featuring outstanding
performance in three films: An Education (2009) and Made in Dagenham (2010),
and the lead role alongside Paul Giamatti in Barney's Version (2010).As she
continued her acting career in England, Pike appeared in the spy spoof, Johnny
English Reborn (2011) and played the character of "Andromeda" in the
sci-fi epic Wrath of the Titans (2012). Pike returned to action-films as the
lead actress alongside Tom Cruise in Jack Reacher (2012).
