Yvonne Joyce Craig
Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16 1936 - August 17, 2015) was an American dancer, actress and choreographer. She is best remembered for her character in Batman's 1960s TV series Batman and Marta she was an Orion slave with green skin, in the Star Trek 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post called her "a pioneer in female superheroes in television." Yvonne Craig was born in Taylorville, Illinois, and was raised in Columbus, Ohio. Her family relocated to Dallas in 1951. She attended W. H. Adamson High School, Sunset High School and then W. H. Adamson High School. It was unfortunate that Craig didn't graduate since she had not received "one credits for PE". After being discovered by Alexandra Danilova, a ballerina and instructor, Craig joined the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo as the youngest corps de ballet participant. As she performed as Batgirl, this training proved extremely beneficial. She left the ballet company in 1957 "over an issue with casting decisions" and moved to Los Angeles in the hopes of continuing her dancing career, but she was being cast in film roles. One of her first TV roles was in an episode of the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover" 1958) alongside Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). Soon after her appearance in The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story (all 1959) and Gidget (all 1958) she also guest-starred as Beverly Mills on the TV show Mr. Lucky (also 1959). Craig appeared in films with Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961) in which she was portrayed by Cesar Romero. In 1962, she was a guest star on the Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig appeared in roles with Elvis Presley in two films: It Happened at the World's Fair (1963) and Kissin' Cousins (1964). She also played an Russian ballet performer opposite James Coburn in Mars Needs Women (1966).
